Martin joined the company in February 2007 from Shell where he held a number of senior management positions around the globe.
Martin started with Shell working in a series of planning, trading and strategy roles for its Global downstream business, followed by a number of Senior General Manager positions in Turkey, Gibraltar and Switzerland before moving to London as Global Head of Business Strategy for Oil Products. Shortly after, Martin took over as Vice President for Shell’s entire oil products trading activities – having responsibility for the group’s newly-created global products trading based out of the UK, Barbados, Dubai, North America and Singapore.
Martin was subsequently appointed as Chief Executive of Shell’s downstream activities in Latin America, based out of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Having overseen a major restructuring of the Latin American portfolio, Martin returned to Europe in 2005 as a senior member of the corporate strategy and M&A team.
When he joined the company, Martin first role was a Chief Operating Officer of the Energy Branch, looking after all generation assets, renewables and supply/trading activities. With the takeover of British Energy, his responsibilities have been increased also to include all the former BE commercial activities as well as those involving all of EDF Energy’s customer-facing businesses, both residential and industrial.
At EDF Energy, Martin is a member of the Executive Team, which is responsible for directing and executing company policy. In addition to these duties, Martin is also a director of EDF Trading.Martin studied Mathematics at Oxford University and the University of California, Los Angeles. He is now married to Kathryn and has two children. He resides in Cobham, Surrey.
