Mark Shorrock is the founder of Low Carbon Accelerator and its investment manager Low Carbon Investors.
In 2001, Mark began work identifying business solutions to climate change. His initial focus was on wind and in 2002 he launched Wind Energy Ltd, a Scottish based developer of wind farms. Mark grew Wind Energy Ltd into the largest independent developer of windfarms in the UK with over 650MW of windfarms moving through the planning process. Mark part exited the business in a sale to US utility AES.
He moved his focus to buildings and energy efficiency as the next and easiest business step to reducing CO2 emissions. His research lead to him discovering many new businesses with compelling business models and "here and now" solutions to reducing CO2 emissions. His research lead him to a realization that there was no specialist investor focused on emerging technologies in the low carbon economy. Mark enlarged his focus to cover four sectors of the low carbon economy: Green Buildings,Energy Efficiency, Cleaner Transport and Clean Energy and in 2006 decided to launch a fund to bridge the funding gap between early stage companies and the financial markets, Low Carbon Accelerator.
Mark put together the core management team for Low Carbon Investors and a wider group of highly networked colleagues as advisors across his four chosen areas.of focus.
Mark's early career was in the film industry where he produced a number of films and set up a number of drama and film productions
